Sri Lanka, also known as Ceylon, is an island separated from her nearest neighbour India by just 29 km across the Palk Straits in the Indian Ocean. (located south / south east of the Indian peninsula). Sri Lanka is a land of a varied sceneries. No other country can boast of such varied natural landscapes, from breathtaking mountains to foaming waterfalls, sluggish rivers, dense forests and golden beaches with blue lagoons and waving palms along the coastline. And, of course, her friendly people.
Ours is an independent republic with an Executive President, elected by the people being the Head of the State. The Capital of the island republic is Colombo, a bustling and developing city that is the centre of commerce and government.
