Getting to Sri Lanka
As you might already know flying is the only way to enter Sri Lanka and the main and only international airport here in Sri Lanka is the Bandaranaike airport which is located in Katunayake which is about 35 kilometres north of Colombo. The Bandaranaike Airport is the hub of the Sri Lankan Airlines and the following other airlines Air Arabia, Air India, Air Sahara, Cathay Pacific, Condor Airlines, Edelweiss Air, Emirates, Indian Airlines, Jet Airways, Kuwait Airways, LTU International, Malaysia Airlines, Qatar Airways, Saudi Arabian Airlines, Singapore Airlines and many more have direct scheduled services to Bandaranaike International Airport.
And before you plan your trip you should check that your passport is valid for at least six months starting from the date of entry. And once you land here in Sri Lanka all nationals will be issued a visa entry of 30 days on arrival at port of entry; for touristic visits only. But this is as long as you have a return or onward ticket and enough funds to last you on your trip here. And if you wish for more than 30 days then you should apply for a 90-day visa at the nearest embassy. And business and transit visas are required by all nationals. And as you should know by now that there are two types of visas which are namely the Tourist and Business and prices vary according to nationality so it is best if you check with nearest consulate. And if you are from UK, Australia, USA, Canada or any other European Country you need not apply for visa but nationals of Malta should take note that you require to apply for a visa in advance before coming to Sri Lanka.
